What is it?
Focus Music proudly offers the renowned Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) syllabus, delivered by our exceptional instrumental teachers. With a tradition spanning nearly a century, AMEB stands as the epitome of prestige and recognition in the Australian music industry.
As your child explores their musical potential, they will progress through carefully structured grades (Grade 1 to 8) within the AMEB system. Similar to coloured belts in martial arts, each grade represents a new level of skill and accomplishment.
What sets AMEB apart is its inclusivity. Regardless of the instrument your child chooses, whether it's piano, guitar, violin, or drums, they can embrace the AMEB curriculum. Both the RockSchool (contemporary genre) and Standard (classical genre) streams are available for all instruments.
Getting your child involved in the AMEB program is a seamless process at Focus Music. Simply inform our office, and we will provide all the guidance and information you need to get started. Our dedicated staff will ensure a smooth integration of the AMEB syllabus into your child's musical education.
By embracing the AMEB system at Focus Music, your child gains access to an internationally recognized curriculum that fosters technical proficiency, musical theory knowledge, and performance skills. AMEB examinations offer measurable benchmarks of progress and hold value in academic contexts.

Is It Worth Doing?
AMEB standards are quoted as entry level requirements to university programs, courses of higher study and for Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) performance equivalents.
AMEB qualifications greatly enhance your child's chances of securing music scholarships for high school. These qualifications hold national and international recognition, including by esteemed institutions like the Cambridge University Overseas Examination Board. AMEB standards are often referenced as entry-level requirements for university programs, higher education courses, and equivalencies for Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) performance. By pursuing AMEB qualifications at Focus Music, your child not only gains a solid foundation in music but also opens doors to future academic and career opportunities.
How Can I Sit the Exams?
At Focus Music, we provide "in-house" mock exams at the end of each semester, granting you a certificate and progression to the next grade. A dedicated timetable will be released closer to the exam dates, ensuring a smooth and organized process. When you feel prepared, you can opt for the official AMEB exams held at the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music.
The AMEB WA website (https://www.ameb.uwa.edu.au/exams) offers the exam timetable for your convenience. We support you every step of the way, whether it's through our internal assessments or guiding you to the official AMEB examinations.
Are exams compulsory?
At Focus Music, we want to emphasize that exams are not mandatory for our students. While we offer the opportunity to participate in official AMEB exams, we understand that some students may prefer to focus solely on their learning and musical development without the pressure of examinations. Our approach is flexible, allowing students to choose their own path and goals. Whether you decide to pursue exams or not, our dedicated teachers will continue to provide comprehensive instruction and support, ensuring a fulfilling musical journey tailored to your individual needs and aspirations.
