What is it?
The Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) is the most prestigious and well-recognised examination system in Australia, with a tradition of excellence
stretching back almost a century.
Focus Music is proud to offer this syllabus, delivered by our amazing
Instrumental Teachers, to your child during their lessons.
Students move through carefully structured grades of learning (Grade 1 to 8). Think of it as the equivalent of different coloured belts in martial arts.
There are two 'streams' of learning - RockSchool (Contemporary genre) and Standard (Classical genre). All instruments can learn the AMEB curriculum.
If you'd like your child to get involved, you can do it all through Focus Music. Simply advise our office and we'll provide you with all the guidance and information you need.
Is It Worth Doing?
AMEB qualifications are extremely helpful in supporting your child's ability to gain music scholarships to High School.
AMEB qualifications are recognised nationally and internationally by such
prestigious institutions as Cambridge University Overseas Examination Board.
AMEB standards are quoted as entry level requirements to university programs, courses of higher study and for Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) performance equivalents.
How Can I Sit the Exams?
Focus Music will offer "in-house" mock exams at the end of Semesters 1 and 2 each year, where you will receive a certificate and the ability to move to the next grade in your learning.
A timetable will be released closer to the exam times and a special day set aside for the exams to take place.
When you feel ready, the official AMEB exams are held at the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music. The timetable for exams can be found on the AMEB WA website - https://www.ameb.uwa.edu.au/exams.
